  • complete a fresh set several days later.

The delay matters. Immediate familiarity can look like mastery. A later set reveals whether the method is actually available from memory.

This month should also introduce tool judgment in Math. The built-in Desmos calculator can be powerful, but not every problem is fastest on a graph. Students should compare algebraic, numerical, and graphical approaches and choose based on clarity—not novelty.

Month 3: Combine skills and protect accuracy

Real modules mix domains and difficulty levels. During month three, move from single-skill drills to mixed sets.

The main goal is to preserve accuracy while deciding what kind of problem is in front of you. Students in the 1200 range often know more content than their score shows, but their performance is inconsistent. They may use a complicated method on an easy question, miss a condition in the prompt, or spend four minutes defending an approach that is not working.

Practice a simple decision sequence:

  1. What is the question asking for?
  2. What information is given?
  3. Which skill or structure does this resemble?
  4. What is the shortest reliable method?
  5. How will I verify the result?

For Reading and Writing, verification may mean checking that the chosen answer is supported by the text and fits the precise task. For Math, it may mean substituting a value, checking units, or confirming the graph.

Month 4: Train timing without teaching panic

Timing improves when methods become more efficient and the student makes better decisions—not when a timer simply creates stress.

Begin with controlled time targets on small sets. Ask the student to note where time went. A slow question may reveal weak fluency, an overcomplicated method, or reluctance to move on.

Develop a two-pass approach:

  • On the first pass, answer questions that are clear and progressing.
  • Mark a question when the path is uncertain or the algebra is expanding without control.
  • Return with the remaining time and a fresh view.
  • Reserve a final check for common personal errors, not a frantic rereading of everything.

Because the SAT is adaptive by module, accuracy throughout the first module matters. But students should not chase rumored routing cutoffs. Month 6: Stabilize the target range and rehearse test day

The final month is for consistency, not reinvention.

Use two or three well-spaced official tests, targeted refreshers, and normal test-day conditions. Practice starting at the same time as the real exam. Confirm device readiness, charger, approved calculator plans, breaks, and the routine for the night before.

If practice scores have entered the target range, identify what produces the strongest performances: pacing, sleep, question selection, or a particular review method. Protect those habits.

If scores remain below the target, distinguish between a stable ceiling and unresolved volatility. A stable score with the same conceptual gaps may call for more time. How to divide weekly study time

A student with four hours per week might use:

  • 90 minutes: instruction or deep concept work;
  • 60 minutes: targeted Math practice;

  • remainder: a mixed timed set or review of marked questions.
